Chronic Pain Management

Chronic Pain ManagementChronic pain is pain in the body lasting longer than six months. Chronic pain can be mild to excruciating and many times continuous. The most common kinds of chronic pain vary from headaches, joints, backaches, and neck pain. Long lasting physical pain can lead to anxiety and depression. Community Wellness Center offers several different ways to deal with chronic pain. Dr. Nunn uses Medical Management and Non-Invasive Osteopathic Treatments that have far fewer side effects and risks when it comes to dealing with chronic pain. The primary goal of Chronic Pain Management is improvement of quality of life and function. Techniques used for chronic pain treatment are:

  • Medication Management
  • Osteopathic Manipulative Techniques
  • Cold Laser Therapy
  • Whirlpool Therapies
  • Weight Loss

To enter our Chronic Pain Management Program you must have medical records documenting your source of pain and a referral from your primary care doctor. Your records will be reviewed during your initial appointment/evaluation to determine if you meet criteria. If you don't have a primary care doctor then you must get an emergency room physician referral.

If you are prescribed schedule II narcotics then you will be required to submit to a drug screen at each visit. This is to ensure you are using your medications responsibly and as prescribed. You may be subject to random medication counts as well.

Medication Management

Medical Management is the monitoring of patients intake of their medicine. Dr. Nunn likes to keep all medication intakes to a minimum if possible for a healthier body.

Osteopathic Manipulative Techniques

Non-Invasive Osteopathic Treatment is a form of holistic remedies without the use of medicine. Not only is it considered healthier for you but it is also said to increase healing speed and unnecessary surgeries. An individualized and comprehensive plan is set for each patient and their chronic pain. Dr. Nunn uses a lot of manual therapies depending upon the type of chronic pain the patient is dealing with.

Osteopathy strengthens the entire bodies overall health. Treatments strengthen the musculoskeletal of the body including your muscle, spine and joints. Dr. Nunn doesn't just focus on one area of the body but the entire body, as it is all interconnected. When strengthening the core of the body, patients' nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems improve.

Cold Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is used to help manage chronic pain by using Eastern philosophy and Western technology. Cold laser therapy is utilized much as an acupuncturist utilizes needles and meridians for acupuncture. The patient will experience different sensations that can be quite powerful in reducing pain in various body parts as well as experience emotional releases that can reduce pain and improve a sense of well-being. Cold laser therapy has many uses not only for pain control as the healing ability of the individual is activated.

Whirlpool Therapy

Whirlpool therapy is provided where an individual doesn't get wet, but can experience a massage with infrared heat to help relax muscle tissues and reduce soreness in specific areas of the body. Whirlpool therapy generally lasts approximately 30 minutes and is helpful to relax tired and aching musles.

Weight Loss

Weight loss is provided for back pain and various other structural pains where excessive weight contributes to chronic pain.
