Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG)
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a substance which occurs naturally in pregnant women which has the effect of releasing abnormal stored fat. HCG started being used for weight loss when physicians began to notice that overweight women actually lost weight when they were pregnant.
Can HCG be harmful in any way?
No. During pregnancy it is produced daily in a quantity of hundreds of thousands of times the amount used for the treatment of obesity, yet it harms neither the mother nor the child.
How does HCG and Diet work?
During pregnancy Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is believed to help insure that the baby will have access to its mother's stored fat supply, regardless of the amount of food which she eats. In overweight people, HCG seems to work by the same method - namely that of making available permanently stored supplies of fat, making it possible to adhere to a very low calorie diet. The theory is that HCG opens the fat cells, thus allowing fat to leave those cells and be used by other cells as fuel for energy.
Can both men and women take HCG?
Yes. It has been used with equally good results in both.
Who should not take the HCG injections?
Women with a history of blood clots during pregnancy, women who are pregnant or breast feeding, women that have or have had breast cancer or ovarian cancer should not take HCG. Men who have or have had prostate cancer or testicular cancer should not take HCG.
Of note... there have been recent studies that show women with breast cancer experienced a decrease in size of the tumor when given HCG in high doses. These type studies were prompted due to pregnant women with breast cancer showing signs of reduced tumor size while they were secreting approximate 1 million units of HCG while pregnant.
Will taking HCG affect my appearence?
Because Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) does protect the structural fat, the wrinkling, if any, will be dramatically reduced. The treatment does not deplete the subcutaneous or other essential fat; therefore the face retains its freshness and natural appearance. Double chins, protruding stomachs and fat around the thighs should be the first to go. Stretching of the skin generally causes stretch marks. This can occur with weight gain, not weight loss.
What if I don't stick to my diet... will I still lose weight with HCG?
Although there is no dramatic weight loss without the accompanying diet, HCG usually causes a reduction in inches rather than pounds.
How do you know that HCG with diet is more affective than just doing one or the other?
Studies have been done, in the past several years, that showed patients not getting true HCG, but only a week saline solution instead lost weight for about 3 days. Then, the patients complained of feeling weak and dizzy, became ravenously hungry and declared themselves unable to continue treatment. As soon as treatment on HCG was resumed, they again felt fit and perfectly satisfied with their diets.
What are the side effects of HCG?
Usually a loss of appetite occurs and patients notice that the severe compulsive hunger disappears completely.
How long can I take HCG?
As long as you would like... you do not have to stop. Sometimes these type medications need a break after several months to make sure you are not getting immune to the results. This will be a joint decision by you and the provider.
Is HCG approved by the FDA?
HCG is approved by the FDA for various medical conditions. However it has not been specifically determined by the FDA to be effective for weight loss. That being said, several studies (over 13) have been done with conclusions of its positive effects for weight loss. Federal law allows that any drug, including HCG, to be used as "off label." This means the drug can be legally used for other purposes than what it is FDA approved for. For example, Antidepressants are commonly used to treat Fibromyalgia even though they have not been approved to treat this disease. Benadryl is used for sleep; Wellbutrin is commonly used to aid in smoking cessation.
These are great results for those struggling to get that weight off. Dr. Nunn sets up a weight loss program plan for each patient wishing to try HCG for weight loss results. Remarkably the HCG works to modify the brain's metabolism and appetite. HCG sets the rate of your metabolism and the pounds come off stress free.
